Not caught out

Coming across this image this morning at reference 1, I thought 'this must be a fake'. For once, the Financial Times has been lazy.

However, Google Images is not having it. The only catch being that Caucasian battlefields are not very strong on charging points.

More seriously, one is reminded that dictators who have been in power for a long time acquire - and presumably need - some very unsavoury friends. The Sorokin of reference 2 was closer to the truth than I had realised. Thank you, RPPL!

Caveat: we should not get too smug here in the West: we do unsavoury friends too.
